After Leylah Fernandez, Emma Raducanu, a second surprise woman, made it into the semi-finals of the US Open. Raducanu, who came into the main draw through qualification, defeated Olympic champion Belinda Bencic 6: 3 and 6: 4.
It didn't start well for Raducanu in the first match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium: Bencic made an early break and quickly led 3-1. Then the 18-year-old British girl got better and more and more mistakes crept in at Bencic. Raducano won five games in a row. And the first sentence. The audience appreciated the leadership of Raducanu, after all, she had entered the game as an outsider.

In the second act, the teenager managed the break to 3: 2, but Bencic fended off another chance to 5: 2. The Swiss woman changed her tactics at short notice and now appeared on the network more often. Ultimately, however, Raducanu prevailed after a playing time of 82 minutes. She used her first match point after Bencic had previously earned a 0:30.
In the semifinals, it's either against Maria Sakkari or Karolina Pliskova. The Greek and the 2016 finalist will play the first match of the night session on Wednesday. The second match of the semifinals has already been determined: Leylah Fernandez will meet the number two of the tournament, Aryna Sabalenka.
