Caroline Garcia is currently experiencing her second spring and has played her way to one, if not the very hot title candidate, at the latest with the victory over Cori Gauff. Against Gauff: The French convinced once again with good aggressiveness, early acceptance of the ball - and some forehand shots that you just see from players who have a healthy self-confidence.

That's what Garcia is currently doing, and she's right: Since the tournament in Bad Homburg, Garcia has been on the wave of success, her record since then: 30 wins and only 4 defeats, most recently she won from qualifying in Cincinnati. Garcia is currently undefeated in twelve matches.

And in New York: She hasn't made a set yet, on the contrary, no one has come close to 6: 4 for her.

nerve thing? "Shows that something is important to you"

Garcia used to be annoying - nerves are sometimes a good sign, as she revealed. "Getting it on your nerves is normal," she said. "It shows that something is important to you. It takes a lot of passion when you play sports, when you play tennis. That's why you do it. And that ultimately drives you to train, to want more."

Garcia now plays with a clearer vision, "I've always tried to play aggressively, to put pressure on the opponent, but I was younger." And just not so equipped with the view which game they have to go through. "And I still see a lot of things I can improve."

Opponent in the semi-finals is Ons Jabeur, most recently in the Wimbledon final, also an opponent in the French Open final for juniors, as Garcia recalled. An unusual player even at that time, with the slice, the many stops. "It was very tricky to play back then. Even more so now." The record speaks for the Tunisian, in the active area she won all two matches - 2019 at the US Open, 2020 in Melbourne.

The contrasting style of the two, the now almost consistently offensive Garcia and the still so variable Jabeur: He could expect a fine match. It starts at 1 a.m. CEST.
