Grabher went into the meeting with the Croatian as a clear outsider, but kept up well, especially in the second set. The Austrian caught up a break deficit, but had to admit defeat 2: 7 in the tie-break. Konjuh was particularly convincing with her first serve, which brought her free points in the important moments.

At the start of the qualifying matches, Julia Grabher won the purely Austrian duel with Barbara Haas in two sets. After the defeat against Konjuh, the women's competition at the US Open 2021 will take place without red-white-red participation.
