Niemeier showed no mercy at 6: 2 and 6: 2 against the Italian Giulia Gatto-Monticone, Friedsam even lost one game against Alexandra Kiick at 6: 3 and 6: 0. Anna-Lena Friedsam started the qualification tournament as number 16, Niemeier as number 30. A small downer: if the two Germans also win their second round matches, there would be a direct clash in the qualifying final.

Before that, Jule Niemeier, who is currently being supervised by ex-Görges coach Michael Geserer, has to play against either the Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu or the Polish Katerzyna Kawa. Friedsam plays against the winner of the game between Ankita Raina from India and Jamie Loeb from the USA.

With Katharina Gerlach, Mona Barthel and Tatjana Maria, three other German women are represented in the qualification table.
