Jule Niemeier failed at the start of the US Open qualification

The performances of the German women on the second qualifying day for this year's US Open went horribly wrong. First, the young Noma Noha Akugue (WTA No. 144) lost to the Romanian Irina Bara (WTA No. 215) and lost 2:6, 4:6 after only 76 minutes of play. A quite severe setback for the finalist of the Hamburg Open at the end of July.

The result of Jule Niemeier's first-round game is even more disappointing. Number four on the seeding list also failed 3: 6, 4: 6 against the Greek Despina Papamichail (WTA No. 113). The 24-year-old was still in the second round of the main competition at Wimbledon.

Only Eva Lys (WTA No. 145) held up the German flag on Wednesday. She opened highly successfully on Court 12 in just 68 minutes against local hero Coco Vandeweghe (WTA No. 291) 6:0, 6:2. The 21-year-old born in Kiev now meets the winner of the game Raluka Serban (WTA No. 156) from Cyprus against the Spaniard Nuria Parrizas Diaz (ATP No. 123).

Here is the individual qualification tableau from New York.
