Here is the match to read in the live ticker.
Dominic Thiem and Stefanos Tsitsipas were able to offer a fantastic show at the Masters in Madrid. With the better (happier) ending for Stefanos Tsitsipas. 6: 3, 1: 6 and 6: 7 (5: 7) - these are the bare numbers from Dominic Thiem's point of view. But one after anonther...
It was a confident start to Dominic Thiem's match. He got the first service game to zero and immediately set a spectacular forehand winner. But Tsitsips also started his first service game with confidence. But Thiem already had two break chances on the Greek's second service and was able to use one thanks to a slight backhand error - and make it 3-1.
The first sentence ends with a Thiem ace
The Austrian confirmed the break and pulled away 4-1 in the first set. Even after that, Thiem kept a good mix of length in his basic shots and aggressiveness. In his first match in Madrid, Tsitsipas hardly found his rhythm at all. With an ace to the outside on the debut side, Thiem ended the first round to 6: 3 from his point of view.
At the beginning of round two, a few more mistakes crept into Dominic Thiem's game - especially on the forehand. Tsitsipas gratefully accepted the gifts and immediately got the break to make it 2-0. And just as Thiem became a little more passive, his opponent became more confident. Especially with his service. And after the double break against Thiem, the second set was quickly decided - 6: 1 for Tsitsipas, who has a hundred percent (!) quota on the first serve in the set. For over an hour, the Greek hits every first serve...
Curtain up for set three. Which tennis world would you immerse yourself in. The one from the Thiem sentence or from the second Tsitsipas round?
Something in between. Tsitsipas dominated, but Thiem braced himself against the force of his opponent and was able to hold his service games with great difficulty at the beginning of the set. Both players were able to keep their service up to 5:5. It went into overtime. And here, too, Thiem defended himself impressively, fending off breakball after breakball. Partly with incredible balls. 6:5 took the lead. However, Tsitsipas was unimpressed and it went into the decision tie-break.
Thiem made it 2-1 with a mini break. Tstitsipas got it back to make it 3:3. Thiem remained aggressive, but now he was missing the few centimeters on his basic strokes and Tsitsipas was able to use his second match point to make it 7: 5 in the tie-break.
Tsitsipas will now meet Argentinian Sebastian Baez in the next round.
