Wimbledon 2021: Probably no private accommodation for the players

At the 2021 Wimbledon tournament, the players will probably have to book themselves into a COVID-19 "safe" hotel. And not, as is often the case, in private accommodation.

Full ranks are a priority at Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal said a few years ago that the days at Wimbledon always brought added family value. After all, the entire Nadal clan arrives, sometimes they cook, sometimes someone else, here and there even the grand master himself takes up the wooden spoon. According to information from the English daily Daily Mail, this will not be possible in 2021.

"One of our priorities is to create an environment with minimal risk for the players," a spokesman for the All England Lawn Tennis Club was quoted in the Daily Mail as saying. “Therefore, under the currently valid guidelines, there will be official hotels for the players, their teams, and other key groups such as the officials.” Participation is only possible under these conditions.

First priority - as many fans as possible at Wimbledon

This results in similar problems for the organizers in Wimbledon as for those of the Australian Open: namely to find hotel capacities for the entire tennis entourage. In any case, there are not enough rooms available in south London, where the traditional tournament is held.

The background to the measure is also that Wimbledon hopes to be able to hold the event, which was canceled last year, in 2021 in front of as many spectators as possible, perhaps even full ranks.
