Wimbledon: Jule Niemeier also wins – and clears the quarterfinals against Tatjana Maria
Jule Niemeier reached the quarterfinals on her Wimbledon debut. The 22-year-old from Dortmund prevailed on Center Court against Brit Heather Watson 6: 2, 6: 4 and will play in a German duel with Tatjana Maria (Bad Saulgau) on Tuesday for a place in the semi-finals.

For Niemeier, it is only the second Grand Slam tournament of her career, she only made it into the top 100 in the world rankings for the first time in May. She gets 310,000 pounds for reaching the quarter-finals, but no points for the ranking, which will not be awarded after the dispute over the exclusion of the Russian and Belarusian players this year.
"I'm sorry that I took a British player out of the tournament," Niemeier apologized to the audience afterwards.
