Karolina Pliskova failed last year in Berlin in the round of 16

Karolina Pliskova suffered a defeat in round two last year after a bye in round one of the WTA Tour 500 tournament in Berlin. Today, a similar fate could be assumed until the beginning of the second set against Kaia Kanepi. However, the 30-year-old Czech got ambitious again this time, which is why she was finally able to leave the field as the winner after 1:43 hours of play with 6:7 (5), 6:0, 6:0.

In the round of the last 16, Pliskova will now face either her compatriot Katerina Siniakova or the Canadian Bianca Andreescu. The Swiss Jill Teichmann, who recently played strongly, had to admit defeat to the Australian qualifier Daria Saville 7:6 (2), 5:7, 2:6 after a marathon game lasting 2:42 hours. The German qualifier Tamara Korpatsch is still in action today, and she also has to deal with a player who has qualified by means of a preliminary round - the Chinese Xinyu Wang.
