WTA Cincinnati: Angelique Kerber and the opportunity to take revenge

Angelique Kerber's current form is suspiciously reminiscent of those times when the German was one of the top favorites at every Grand Slam tournament. No less than 14 of her last 15 matches have gone to the 33-year-old since the tournament in Bad Homburg, the last defeat was against Ashleigh Barty, of all places.
Precisely because Kerber meets the world's number one again in the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati. "She has developed back to the old Angie", also knows Barty, who had the upper hand with 6: 3 and 7: 6 (3) at Wimbledon. Overall, the Australian leads in a direct comparison with 3: 2.

But Kerber's self-confidence could hardly be greater at the moment. So far, the woman from Kiel has presented herself in excellent form in the state of Ohio and eliminated Maria Sakkari, Elina Svitolina, Jelena Ostapenko and Petra Kvitova on the way to the semifinals.
The world number 22 feels anyway. in Cincinnati, having reached the semifinals for the third time after 2012 and 2016. Both times, however, Kerber went to the final - and five years ago the path at the US Open even led her to winning the title. A similar development cannot be ruled out this year either.
