Tennis professional Andrea Petkovic has reached her first final since 2015 at the WTA tournament at Rothenbaum in Hamburg. The 33-year-old defeated Jule Niemeier from Dortmund in the German semi-finals on Saturday 7: 6 (4), 4: 6, 7: 5. Petkovic, who is also the tournament ambassador for the Hamburg Open, turned her third match ball after 3:02 hours.

In the final on Sunday, the Darmstadt player will meet the qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse (Romania). Both Petkovic and Niemeier had received a wildcard for the women's tournament, which had been revived after 19 years.

Ruse had surprisingly defeated Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska, who was in first position, 2: 6, 6: 1, 6: 4 in the first semi-final. The hard-fought match lasted just under two hours. For the Romanian it could be the first victory on the WTA stage.
