WTA Luxembourg: Bencic, Mertens and Ostapenko win at the start

Good start for Belinda Bencic at the WTA 250 event in Luxembourg: The Olympic champion beat Zarina Diyas in the second round 6: 1 and 6: 3 and is already in the quarter-finals. In this she meets the Russian Liudmila Samsonova on Friday.
Jelena Ostapenko is also one round further: The 2017 French Open winner prevailed in her second round game against Arianne Hartono in three sets with 6: 2, 4: 6 and 6: 1. The Latvian now has to deal with Alize Cornet.
There was an even bigger fight in the last game of the day: In this game Elise Mertens defeated Aliaksandra Sasnovich with 3: 6, 6: 2 and 7: 5. The number two of the tournament will face Marketa Vondrousova in the round of the last eight.
