WTA Madrid: Aryna Sabalenka and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova complete the semi-finals
Aryna Sabalenka and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova are the last two semi-finalists at the WTA 1000 event in Madrid.

However, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova had to work much harder than her Belarusian colleague Sabalenka. The Russian faced Karolina Muchova from the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 event in Madrid and proved one thing above all: strong nerves. In the end it was two tiebreaks that tipped the balance in favor of Pavlyuchenkovas.
In the semifinals, the Russian will now meet Aryna Sabalenka, who should not be long with a battered Elise Mertens. The Belarusian, who was in top form recently, dealt with the Belgian 6: 1 in round one, and in the second set Mertens finally had to give up when the score was 4: 0. Ash Barty and the Spaniard Badosa are also in the semi-finals.
