"After testing negative for COVID-19 twice before my departure for Madrid, I was sadly informed that I tested positive for COVID-19 when I arrived," the Canadian said on social media. "So I won't be able to play the Madrid Open."

At least in terms of health, the 20-year-old is doing well, she would now allow herself some rest and follow the health guidelines. "I'm really looking forward to getting back on the field," said Andreescu, who has not played a match since the Miami final - where she had to give up in the second round.

Tears of bad luck persist

A time for Bianca Andreescu that was fraught with negative climaxes continues. The Canadian, who surprisingly won the US Open in 2019, was plagued by injuries and could not play a single match in the 2020 calendar year and only returned to the WTA tour at the Australian Open this year.

Since then, the appearances of the world number six have also been few and far between, in Melbourne the 20-year-old made it to the semifinals, in Miami - in her last appearance so far - Andresscu played her way into the final.
