After Angelique Kerber's surprising end on Tuesday, no further surprise should follow the next day at the WTA 500 tournament in Ostrava: Both top seeded Iga Swiatek and second local hero Petra Kvitova made it to the quarter-finals on Wednesday without any problems.

First Swiatek prevailed against Yulia Putintseva 6: 4 and 6: 4. The Polish French Open winner last year only allowed her opponent to break one break in the entire match and took her serve from the Kazakh three times. In the quarter-finals, the sixth in the world will meet Elena Rybakina or compatriot Magda Linette.

Much less confident than Swiatek, Kvitova reached the round of the last eight. The Czech defeated Anastasia Potapova, to the delight of the Czech fans, 6: 1, 6: 7 (4) and 6: 3. She now has to deal with Kerber conquerors Teichmann or Alison Riske.

While Swiatek and Kvitova, who both benefited from a bye in the first round, are already in the quarter-finals, Jelena Ostapenko had to play her first-round game on Wednesday. With a clear 6: 4 and 6: 0 success over Anna Blinkova, the 2017 French Open winner fixed a second-round hit with Maria Sakkari, twelfth in the world rankings.
