WTA presents new ranking system

After the ATP, the women's tennis association (WTA) also reacted to the corona crisis on Thursday. Specifically, it is about an adaptation of the world rankings that have been frozen since March. As with men, the calculation period will now be from March 2019 to December 2020 instead of 52 weeks.

The 16 best tournaments count, the better result from 2019 or 2020 is taken into account if a player plays in the same event in both years. The best eleven results are used in the double ranking.

The points do not drop out of the rating until the tournament is played again, but at the latest after 52 weeks.

Also on Thursday, it was announced that all sporting events in China had been canceled for the rest of 2020 . The WTA has made frequent stops in Asia in recent years, which is why it would be particularly affected by a general ban on sporting events.

However, the association initially tried to calm down and stated in a broadcast that it would continue to work on holding tournaments.
