Bianca Andreescu didn't really get going after her comeback in 2021. In Melbourne she played again for the first time since the end of 2019, in Miami she even reached the final, where she had to give up injured against Ashleigh Barty.

Nothing bad, however, Andreescu actually wanted to attack again in Madrid and Rome.A positive COVID-19 test, however, thwarted the bill , and a possible quarantine obligation in Rome also prevented intervention there.

Now the world number seven wants to collect the necessary match practice in Strasbourg. "It makes a huge difference," she said when asked about matches before the biggest test on clay. "I wanted to play a tournament before the French Open. It's been two years since I last played on clay. Let's see what's out there."

Andreescu's last appearance on red ashes actually dates back to May 2019, when she reached the second round in Paris, but could not compete there due to an injury.

Andreescu: "Make the most of the circumstances"

"I'm doing great," Andreescu said in Strasbourg. She took a few days off to Miami and spent time with the family. "What happened in Madrid, it happened. I think the best I can do now is play in Strasbourg." Even if the weather has not been very exhilarating during training so far. "The pitches are a bit damp. But I'm making the best of the circumstances."

In round 1, Andreescu meets a qualifier.
