“But I'm only human too and I need a vacation from time to time. We play from January to October. I will not play in this mode in November, ”the dpa quotes the Hamburger from an interview with today's Sport Bild .

Zverev canceled the current Masters tournament in Toronto after his Olympic victory. In the coming week in Cincinnati, however, he is still registered.

Zverev on the Davis Cup: "As soon as the old format is back, I'll be there" /

Zverev had already expressed criticism several times of the "new" Davis Cup. In contrast to the old system, a final tournament has been held at the end of the season since 2019. In 2021 this should run for two weeks, including from November 25th to 30th in Innsbruck with a game between Austria and Germany . On December 5th, the Davis Cup winner will be determined in Madrid.

For Zverev, the new system is apparently out of the question. "As soon as the old format is back, with home advantage and a duel at the weekend, I'll be there," he continued.

Zverev: "Gold won for Germany"

Zverev also commented on the Olympic victory last Sunday, when he beat Karen Khachanov in the final and won the gold medal . The only downer: that his family was not there due to corona precautionary measures. "The reception of the German team in the Olympic village was at least a small consolation. I have never felt such cohesion in such a large group," said Zverev. "This is my Olympic experience par excellence, and so I am proud to have won gold for all of these athletes and Germany, not just for me."
