Petkovic had actually planned 2020 as a "year off", as a farewell year from tennis. Her transition to life afterwards had already sparked a few months ago, with the moderation of the ZDF sports report, among other things. After all, Petkovic is considered a person with many interests. Most recently, she had founded a book club. /

"I don't want Corona to end my career, " she told FAZ . "I tend to keep playing, but less overall and with a focus on the big tournaments and those that are near me, like Bad Homburg or Berlin."

She currently trains on the court for an hour a day "to stay in the swing and keep me fit", otherwise fitness is the order of the day. The plan is to go to the training camp a month before the tour starts again. When and whether that will still be in 2020 is open. The tour will be stopped until July 13th , only national tournament series are currently being planned. "The only thing I can imagine this year is a Grand Slam tournament without an audience. Because these big tournaments could afford it, but I don't know how smaller tournaments could do it without an audience," knows also Petkovic.

The US Open are currently still on schedule and want to make a decision in mid-June to relocate them in terms of time or space or to cancel; the French Open has already been postponed to late summer in September. A sand series around Roland Garros seems conceivable here, whether with or without a spectator, is also in the stars. Petkovic apparently expects Paris at best. "It is actually what I think most likely," said the 32-year-old, who reached the semifinals in 014 at Bois de Boulogne: "That Paris will be able to do this without viewers, only with TV money."
