Rafael Nadal won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award for the third year in a row, for the fourth time. Nadal had already won the fair play prize in 2010, 2018 and 2019. Dominic Thiem, John Millman and Diego Schwartzman were also nominated.
As usual, Roger Federer won the prize as a fan favorite for the 18th time (!) In a row. Federer only played one tournament in 2020, at the Australian Open, after which he was canceled due to two knee operations. However, his appearances in Melbourne were tough. Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski won in doubles.
Vasek Pospisil was named Comeback Player of the Year. The Canadian, formerly number 25, had started the season outside of the top 100 after a back operation and finished it in 61st place thanks to finals in Montpellier and Sofia and a round of 16 at the US Open.
The most improved player is Andrey Rublev . The 23-year-old rose to 8th place in the ATP ranking and won five tournaments - more than anyone else in 2020. Like Novak Djokovic, he won 41 matches this year, more than any other player.
Carlos Alcaraz was named Newcomer of the Year. The 17-year-old Spaniard jumped from 491th place to 141st place in the world rankings; in the meantime he was in 136th place.Alcaraz won three titles on the ATP Challenger Tour in 2020, at such a young age only Richard Gasquet, Novak Djokovic, Juan Martin del Portro and Felix Auger-Aliassime had managed it.
Frances Tiafoe won the Arthus Ashe Humanitarian Award. Tiafoe supports ThanksUSA, the USTA's national junior tennis and the "Learning Network" and auctioned signed collectibles for the benefit of COVID-19 aid. In addition, Tiafoe had created an impressive video ("Racquets Down, Hands Up") following the killing of George Floyd.
Fernando Vicente was named Coach of the Year. The ex-professional is Andrey Rublev's trainer and led him to his five titles on the tour. Colleague Bob Brett, former coach of Boris Becker, won the Tim Gullikson Career Coach Award.
