It was nothing with the tournament victory in Rennes, France: Dominic Thiem missed his third triumph at Challenger level. There have been two so far, both in 2013.
In the end, things went very quickly against Ugo Humbert, after an even tighter first round. Here it was a break that the Frenchman transported, while Thiem had chances for a rebreak, but couldn't use any, and especially during the course of the sentence didn't get too many good returns into play.
In the second round things went quickly, the Frenchman needed just under 25 minutes here. Thiem didn't get a chance when he served, but his own error rate increased extremely.
Humbert thus won his eighth title on the Challenger Tour (in addition to three at ATP level). In the live ranking, he, the former number 25, jumps to 110th place.
Dominic Thiem, formerly number 3 in the world, is also on the up: he will be in the top 200 again tomorrow and is currently 182nd.
All in all, a mixed week comes to an end: Thiem struggled through some of his matches, but also showed a great performance in the semifinals against Hugo Gaston .
Thiem will be at the start of the ATP tournament in Metz next week, where he will meet Richard Gasquet at the start .
