Kyrgios clearly won 6: 4, 6: 0 against Sebastian Baez (ATP No. 60) - the Argentine was in good form recently and in the final in Santiago de Chile, he is currently higher in the ranking than ever. /

However, Baez had little to report against a motivated and apparently fit Kyrgios on hard court. "If I play well, I'm pretty good," Kyrgios summed it up simply but aptly .

Kyrgios did a lot, even if a serve from below failed, in general he was "in a good mood", as he explained.

Kyrgios had played little tournament tennis lately, but at the Australian Open he put up a big fight with eventual finalist Daniil Medvedev and won the doubles competition alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis. With Kokkinakis, his buddy, Kyrgios is also registered in Indian Wells in doubles.

In singles he now meets Federico Delbonis, currently number 34 in the world, but also more of a lover of clay courts in the world.

Korda gets Clash with Rafael Nadal

Sebastian Korda, who won 6: 3, 6: 4 against Kokkinakis - and has now won a duel against Rafael Nadal, was also victorious at the start. Nadal had won the only previous match between the two, 6: 1, 6: 1, 6: 2 at the French Open 2020. However, of course: on sand. On the other hand, Nadal is the hard court king in 2022, with already three tournament wins and a 15-0 match record...

Jenson Brooksby, Jack Sock, Fabio Fognini and Lorenzo Musetti also progressed in Indian Wells at the start.
