The Italian had a knuckle-bust in the semi-final match against Holger Rune at the tournament in Sofia and had to give up shortly afterwards. He then canceled his start at the current tournament in Astana.

Now the youngster spoke up on social media. "I spoke to my doctor and was advised to take a short break to allow the ankle to recover," Sinner wrote. He didn't give the exact diagnosis - but the short break doesn't indicate anything too bad.

Sinner is hoping for Vienna and Paris

Bitter, of course: Sinner will also miss the ATP tournament in Florence next week - a home game. "Missing a tournament in Italy hurts particularly badly," he said.

However, he wants to work towards his starts in Vienna and Paris, says the 21-year-old.

In 2022, Sinner was already unlucky in terms of health .
