Rafael Nadal wobbled only very briefly in his first match of the Italian Open. It wasn't good at the beginning what he presented against John Isner, and he got two breakballs at 3:3, but missed. From then on only Rafa played, who identified exactly this moment as the sticking point, and his early break in the second round.

In a direct comparison, Nadal leads 4: 1, both clay court encounters of the two took place in Rome, Nadal won both, but had to go the full distance last year, winning the tie-break of the third set.
At the Australian Open that year, Nadal also won, but to the displeasure of Shapovalov, who charged him with exceeding the time and called the referee corrupt .
