Isner won 6:3, 7:6 (6) against the Munich player and thus extended his winning streak in the classic lawn to nine. Isner last won the tournament in 2018 and 2019. Most recently he had not played in Newport. "This never gets too old, even as I get older," Isner joked of audience support . The American is 37 years old, "who knows how many tournaments I still play and how often in Newport," he mused.

Isner broke Ivo Karlovic's career aces record at Wimbledon and now has 13,772 aces after beating Gojowczyk at Newport. He had converted his match point accordingly.
