Altmaier beat the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo (ATP No. 135) 6: 3, 3: 6 and 6: 3 in the final and won his third title on the ATP Challenger Tour. Altmaier had already triumphed in Braunschweig and Lüdenscheid in 2021.
The 23-year-old is also climbing to new heights in the ATP ranking: just the week before last, he cracked the top 100 for the first time, thanks to his entry into the finals at the Challenger tournament in Knoxville; the win in Mexico now puts him in 84th place. Altmaier also takes away $ 7,200 in prize money.
Oscar Otte attacks the top 100
With Oscar Otte, Altmaier remains one of the climbers of the last time: Otte had only won in Bari yesterday , after victories in Ortisei and Ismaning and reaching the US Open round of 16 before.
Otte rises to 102nd place in the ATP ranking, also a career high that should probably be enough for him for the direct Australian Open qualification.
