The US Open has only just ended, and the next Grand Slam tournament is just around the corner. In less than two weeks, on September 27th, to be precise, the French Open will begin in Paris. Around two weeks before the start of the classic clay court, the organizers announced the wildcard starters.

On the men's side, Andy Murray , among others, received a wildcard for the event. The Scot, who reached the final in Paris in 2016, slipped straight into the peloton as he did at the US Open in New York. The remaining seven wildcards all went to French: Elliot Benchetrit, Hugo Gaston, Quentin Halys, Antonie Hoang, Maxime Janvier, Harold Mayot and Arthur Rinderknech are also directly in the main draw.

For women, the most prominent wildcard holder is probably Eugenie Bouchard. The French Open semi-finalist of 2014 is currently working her way up the world rankings after a few difficult years and almost got her second career goal last Sunday at the WTA tournament in Istanbul .

In addition, US Open quarter-finalist Tsvetana Pironkova received a free ticket to the main competition. The French women Clara Burel, Elsa Jacquemot, Chloé Paquet, Pauline Parmentier, Diane Parry and Harmony Tan complete the wildcard set for women.
