Gallery: Who will announce their retirement among men in 2021?

The R word? Not a nice topic for players and fans. But who could actually resign in 2021?

First of all, the good news: The days of Boris Becker, Stefan Edberg, Pete Sampras, when a career was nearing the end of their twenties, are over. Today's tennis players are fitter and have a whole team gathered around them, especially in the top area, to keep their bodies on tour for as long as possible. The best example: Roger Federer - now 39 years old. However, his operated knee could be fatal for the Swiss. A planned comeback in 2021? Doesn't seem as safe as expected now.

For whom could the issue of resignation also play a role in the new year? Maybe with Andy Murray? He had already been given a farewell video after the Australian Open 2018, but recovered better than expected from his hip operation and was back on the court in the summer, at least in doubles. Last? But if things weren't going very well, Murray is still fighting to get back into the top 100. And indicated that if something didn't change in the ranking, he would be back on the subject of resignation. However, he also says: "I hope to be much higher, win more consistent matches and measure myself against the greats. If I can do that, I'll play as long as I can." /

But who are other candidates that we should watch carefully in 2021 - uncertain whether there will be another 2022 for them (on the tennis court)? We have a choice ...
