Bianca Andreescu also has to cancel her start in Dubai due to injury.

She was the newcomer of the year 2019. Canadian Bianca Andreescu topped off her meteoric rise at the US Open, finishing the season as number five in the world rankings, even though she started the year only as number 178 - all with just one 19 years. The Canadian had already forced a shoulder injury to take a break last summer, and after the US Open she wanted to prevent another breakdown with a more relaxed schedule. But that was of no use - at the WTA Finals, a damaged knee forced her to give up against Karolina Pliskova.

It is the same injury that caused Andreescu to cancel for this year's Australian Open. "I wanted to be in Melbourne and it was hard to cancel the tournament." At the Fed Cup qualifiers last week, a comeback of the 19 year olds seemed within reach, as he had meant in advance: "I think that There is a chance that I will play this weekend. We have not yet made a decision, but I hope that I can play. ”In the 3-1 defeat of their Canadians, the youngster's performance was on paper in the room, however only in the final double, which was not carried out due to the clear result.

Comeback postponed

The next message from the Canadian shows that this appearance would have been too early anyway: The 19-year-old also had to cancel her appearance in Dubai. "I'm not at 100 percent yet, and on the recommendation of my team and the doctor, I don't want to take any chances of injuring my knee again," said Andreescu in a statement. "Every day I get closer to the goal of being back on the pitch, but Dubai is just too early."

With this Bianca Andreescu had planned a start at eight tournaments in the past twelve months - she could only play with five of them. In the other three, she either had to withdraw or give up during the tournament. The bad luck for injuries is no less with the newcomer of the year 2019. Since the WTA Finals she has not played a match, her next appearance after the cancellation for Dubai is uncertain again.
