What an epidemic year for Kevin Anderson! After his injury problems in 2016 (knees, shoulders and ankles), he had returned to the top ten and in 2017 at the US Open (defeat against Rafael Nadal) and in 2018 in Wimbledon (quarter-final victory over Roger Federer, mammoth semi-final against John Isner, Final defeat against Novak Djokovic) reached two Grand Slam finals. /

But after a great start to 2019 with the final victory over Ivo Karlovic in Pune , Anderson was largely out of action - at first the elbow caused problems, then the knee, because of which he had to go under the knife. Most recently, he hit Wimbledon and made it to the third round. The South African has been on sick leave since then, and is currently only ranked 91st. After all, 2019 was a success on a family basis: Anderson and his wife Kelsey had their first child in late year.

Anderson gets the US development coach

In 2020 everything should be better for the former number 5 in the world, Anderson wants to attack again. In November he was even on the road in Germany and relied on support from ex-Julia Görges fitness coach Florian Zitzelsberger.

Now the 33-year-old has also repositioned himself on the court: Anderson has caught Diego Moyano, who has been a development coach of the US tennis association for many years. Moyano had helped Reilly Opelka, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz, among others, to make the leap from juniors to professionals.

Most recently, Moyano was at work with Tommy Paul, who ennobled him as the "true GOAT of USTA" .

And sometimes everything fits together wonderfully, because Paul also has new help: He will work with Brad Stine from 2020 - and he's ... Kevin Anderson's old coach.
