Leo Borg has received wild cards for two tournaments in Marbella: For the ATP Challenger 80 event, which has already started this week. As for the qualification of the ATP 250 tournament, which starts next week (the qualification is already on the weekend).
At the Challenger tournament, Borg faces tough competition: Roberto Carballes Baena, currently number 96 in the world, is the top seed ahead of Norbert Gambos. Prominent names such as Jaume Munar, Gianluca Mager and Martin Klizan are also there. Ernests Gulbis was already successful at the start.
Borg in round 1 against Taro Daniel
In his first round game, Borg meets Taro Daniel, who is seeded at six, and is currently number 118 in the tennis world. Daniel rose to fame in 2018 when he beat Novak Djokovic in Indian Wells.
Borg is currently without a world ranking. The 17-year-old celebrated his greatest success at junior level just a few weeks ago when he won the G1 tournament in Porto Alegre .
In his previous Challenger appearances in 2020 in Bergamo and Pau, he was defeated at the start - in Pau he lost to Gulbis.
Holger Rune is no longer there: The youngster, who recently celebrated his first victories at the ATP Tour level and recently trained with Novak Djokovic , lost the qualification in the last round in Marbella.
From an Austrian point of view, Sebastian Ofner is at the start, he will play against Jaume Munar, who was seeded at Dre.
