It is now known that US President Donald Trump is a big tennis fan. The 73-year-old has attended the US Open in New York several times, not always for the enjoyment of the rest of the audience. A few years ago, he was also allowed to snap a few balls with Serena Williams - with mediocre success ... /

Now Trump apparently hopes to meet Rafael Nadal. As the Spanish website abc.es reports , Trump will welcome the Spanish King, Felipe VI, and wife Letizia of Spain to the White House on April 21 this year, to "reaffirm our agreements, hold together, and address current global challenges discuss " as it says . These types of meetings and dinners are usually held with prominent personalities from the culture, art and sports of the host country - and Trump in particular seems to have kept an eye on Nadal.

Trump: "I like Rafa. He is a winner"

The US President already announced his admiration for Nadal in 2017. "Do you know who my favorite athlete is? Rafael Nadal. I like Rafa. He is a guy who always, always wants to win. He is a winner," said Trump .

At that time, however, he did not meet with mutual love. "I was in the US when Trump was campaigning," said Nadal three years ago. "I don't like the way he talks. It's not my style." It can therefore be doubted whether Nadal is flirting with an acceptance of the invitation.

And for another reason: In April "Rafa" should be in the middle of the clay court tour. From April 12th to 19th, the Masters tournament will take place in Monte Carlo - and from April 20th Nadal's "home game" in Barcelona, where he won the record but has something to make up for this year: because in 2019 he lost here against Dominic Thiem in the semifinals . A twelfth title could be more desirable to Nadal than a meeting with Trump ...
