Federer has already won the title seven times, this time it only took second place . Federer had to give in to the swinger Christian Stucki. The 34-year-old was first and thus king at the Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival this year.

If it had only been for the sports colleagues and media representatives, Federer would have won. However, Stucki was at the front of the audience with 52 percent of the votes; Federer only fetched 15 percent. Skier Beat Feuz was also 19 percent ahead of this year's Wimbledon finalist. In the overall calculation, this meant: Stucki won 30 percent of the vote, Federer only 21.5. /

Federer was usually absent from the Swiss Sport Awards because he usually prepares for the new season in Dubai during this time. His parents Robert and Lynette Federer were there for him. "I hope he is preparing very well because he is no longer the youngest," said Lynette Federer of her now 38-year-old son.

"It'll probably be Stucki," Robert Federer had speculated before the election . "Roger has won seven times already. For him it takes a special effort if he wants to win," said Lynette Federer.

In the past season, Federer had won tournaments in Dubai, Miami, Halle and Basel. At Wimbledon, he narrowly missed his 21st Grand Slam title when he didn't use two match balls in the final against Novak Djokovic .

Federer only started again at the Australian Open

Federer only started his new season at the Australian Open (January 20 to February 3, 2020) after he surprisingly canceled participation in the new ATP Cup. In previous years he had always participated in the Hopman Cup alongside Belinda Bencic.

Federer justified his cancellation for the ATP Cup with family backgrounds.

After the ATP Finals in London, Federer had played an exhibition fight series in South America with Alexander Zverev.
