Once upon a time ... the successful couple Patrick Mouratoglou and Serena Williams

So Serena Williams will play in Wimbledon, the 23-time Grand Slam winner announced in an Instagram post earlier this week. The tennis scene is now in great excitement and joyful anticipation. Serena has not played a match in almost a year, her last dating from the 2021 Wimbledon tournament, where she limped off Center Court in the first round after falling in the match against Aliaksandra Sasnovich.

Back then in the box of the American: Coach Patrick Mouratoglou. According to human opinion, he will no longer find a place in Serena's team in a few days. And she also has to take care of Simona Halep's concerns - the title holder of 2019, who was able to beat Williams in two sets at the time.

Mouratoglou is hard on himself

Mouratoglou is quoted as saying in the Romanian Gazeta Sporturilor that he asked Serena about six weeks before the start of the French Open if she wanted to compete there. "I told her I'd be waiting for her at practice on Monday. And if she doesn't come, see myself as free for new tasks."

Apparently Serena didn't accept this invitation, Mouratoglou moved on to Halep. For whom the tournament in Paris with the defeat against Qinwen Zheng and China in round two was over again faster than hoped. Which prompted Mouratoglou, who actually no longer wanted to coach on the tour, to make an extremely self-critical post on Instagram.
