"He's so perfect! Thanks to everyone for the good wishes," wrote the American in an Instagram video with the newborn Adyn Aubrey. He was born on Sunday. /

Townsend joins a baby week: Previously, the birth of Andy Murray's fourth child and Alexander Zverev's first became known.

"Life has the fun way to get you exactly where you should be," the 24-year-old announced her pregnancy via Instagram in October 2020.

Townsend: Comeback still seems open

Townsend is considered one of the most exciting tennis players because of the way she plays - she likes to find the way to the net and also likes to trust the slice, which is rather unusual on the WTA tour. In 2012 she was number 1 in the juniors after winning the Australian Open in singles and doubles. She had also won doubles at Wimbledon (with Genie Bouchard) and at the US Open.

She was in the limelight at the US Open 2012, when Patrick McEnroe denied her a wildcard for the open main draw because of her slightly higher weight - allegedly because her long-term health was in view. The decision was harshly criticized by Martina Navratilova and Lindsay Davenport, among others.

After a few ups and downs, she had triumphed at the US Open in 2019 when she won in a spectacular two-round game against world number four Simona Halep and was only eliminated in the round of 16 against future winner Bianca Andreescu.

Townsend last played at the US Open 2020 and reached the semi-finals there in doubles. She is currently in 98th place in the singles.

It is not yet known whether or when she is planning a comeback.
