It didn't get off to a good start for Peter Gojowczyk on Court 9. After a few minutes of playing time, the Dachauer was down 0: 5 against Ugo Humbert, the first set was quickly gone 6: 1. But then Gojowczyk, who had played his way into the main field through qualification, turned the tables. Gojowczyk won sets two and three against the Frenchman who was in 23rd position with 6: 1 and 6.2. And also took the lead in round four with an early break.

Humbert, who had knocked out Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, found his second breath somewhere.

In the decision, a break was enough for Gojowczyk to move into the second round with 1: 6, 6: 1, 6: 2, 5: 7 and 6: 4. There he meets Dusan Lajovic.
