WTA Bad Homburg: Sabine Lisicki eliminated in the quarterfinals

Sabine Lisicki missed the semifinals at the grass tournament in Bad Homburg. The former Wimbledon finalist, who after a long period of suffering is fighting to join the top of the world, lost to the French Caroline Garcia 3: 6, 6: 7 (7: 9). Lisicki (32) had previously won her first two WTA matches in the spa town after months of injury.

As a result, she climbs around 300 places in the world rankings - from 804th towards the top 500 players. In Bad Homburg, Lisicki, who suffered a serious knee injury in autumn 2020, started with a wild card.

The last German at the preparatory tournament for Wimbledon (from June 27) is defending champion Angelique Kerber (Kiel). The three-time Grand Slam winner meets France's Alize Cornet in her quarter-finals on Thursday afternoon, with Garcia waiting for her on Friday.

Kerber is ranked 15th at Wimbledon, having won the tournament in south-west London in 2018. Lisicki, a 2013 All England Club finalist, is absent. She made her last appearance at Wimbledon in 2017, and in the two years that followed she lost in qualifying.
