WTA Charleston Open: Korpatsch fails in the first round, Wozniacki continues

After a three-set thriller, the German Tamara Korpatsch had to admit defeat 4:6, 6:3 and 2:6 in the first round. Caroline Wozniacki , on the other hand, had no problems in her first round match and moved into the second round of the WTA 500 tournament in Charleston with a 6:0 and 6:1 victory.

Tamara Korpatsch had a hard time with her first round opponent Daria Saville today. The German only found her rhythm at the end of the first set, too late to win it. Nevertheless, just in time to start the second set with confidence, which she then won. The third set started evenly, but Saville increasingly gained the upper hand and then ended the match relatively quickly with a 6:2 victory in the deciding set.

Caroline Wozniacki was admitted directly to the main draw of the WTA 500 tournament in South Carolina thanks to a wildcard and was able to deliver a brilliant performance today. She played against McCartney Kessler, who had moved up as a lucky loser. The Dane only lost a game in the second set of her match and can now move forward into the second round, where she will meet 15th seed Anhelina Kalinina.
