German semi-finals at Rothenbaum: Andrea Petkovic from Darmstadt and Jule Niemeier from Dortmund have qualified for the semifinals at the Hamburg German Open. Petkovic, also ambassador of the WTA tournament in the Hanseatic city, made the internal duel between the two training colleagues perfect with a 6: 2, 7: 5 win against Ysaline Bonaventure from Belgium.

"I often play against Jule in training. She often spanked my bum. She has good punches and I will definitely not underestimate her," said the 33-year-old after her victory on Center Court. Niemeier scored for the second time the semi-finals in her career at a WTA tournament. The 21-year-old Dortmund woman eliminated number three seeded Slovenian Tamara Zidansek surprisingly clearly with 6: 2 and 6: 4.

Jastremska in the semifinals

After only 76 minutes, Niemeier transformed her first match ball into a victory against the semi-finalist of this year's French Open using a net scooter. Niemeier, who slipped into the main field of the event endowed with $ 250,000 by wildcard, repeatedly put pressure on her competitor with good basic strokes. "It was still not my best game, but I knew what I had to do to win," said Niemeier. A win at a German tournament is always something very special.

The top seeded Dajana Jastremska reached the semifinals without losing a set. The Ukrainian defeated Sara Errani from Italy 7: 6, 6: 4 and now meets Elena-Gabriela Ruse from Romania.
