Sabine Lisicki injured herself doubles in Linz

Sabine Lisicki apparently has to accept another serious setback on the way back to the top of the world. The 31-year-old, who had already struggled with a leg and shoulder injury (2017), a knee operation (2018) and glandular fever (2019), had to fight doubles at the WTA tournament in Linz due to a knee injury give up.

At the side of Jodie Burrage, the German led against Ulrikke Eikeri and Yana Sizkova 6: 5, before Lisicki buckled when she ran into a ball and went down. The 2013 Wimbledon finalist immediately grabbed her left knee, screamed in pain and then had to be carried away in tears. It is not yet known what type of injury it is.

Yastremska already retired

Also from a sporting point of view, the organizers around tournament director Sandra Reichel suffered a setback on Monday. With Dayana Yastresmka (4: 6 and 3: 6 vs. Greet Minnen) the number three of the tournament said goodbye in the first round, Ekaterina Alexandrova, who was fourth, is after a 6: 3 and 6: 4 win against Katerina Siniakova, however, in the round of 16.

The top seeded Aryna Sabalenka will make her first appearance in Linz on Tuesday. The world number 11 will not meet Jasmine Paolini before 5:30 p.m. CET. The Austrian Julia Grabher (vs. Sorana Cirstea) will intervene in the tournament beforehand.
