Up to 4: 4 in the first round, both players allowed little at their serve, but then it went quickly: Ostapenko broke and confirmed to zero to the set win. In the second set her breaks to 2: 1, 4: 1 and at the end 6: 1 - thanks to a double error by Görges, who thus missed their 14th title on the WTA Tour. Last year, Görges had defeated in the final against Belinda Bencic.

Against Ostapenko Görges get indeed 12 winners, their opponent "only" 11. However, this made only 5 mistakes without need. For Görges, it was acceptable 13 - but in the end too much against the surprisingly stable Latina, who is often known for her all-or-nothing game. For a breakball Görges did not come.

"Well done, that was too strong for me today," admitted Görges towards Ostapenko. "For me, Luxembourg has a very special place in the heart," said Görges also on the great atmosphere and especially on their friendship with the tournament organizers. "I would also like to thank my team, it was a great start," says the 30-year-old in the direction of her new coach Jens Gerlach and her new physio and hitting partner.

Görges had announced in early October the separation of coach Sebastian Sachs and Physio Florian Zitzelsberger . After her break at the French Open in May, she had surprisingly separated from her successful coach Michael Geserer.

For the 22-year-old Ostapenko, on the other hand, things are starting to pick up again. The 2017 French Open champion slipped to 83th place in the summer over the past two years, failing to live up to the high expectations of her sensational victory in Paris. Most recently, however, she showed uptrend, was in the final in Linz last week in the final and now won in Luxembourg thanks to a last-minute wildcard. Your reward: 34.677 euros and 280 ranking points, Ostapenko will thus return to the top 50.
