The 32-year-old won her opening match at the clay court event in Palermo against the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu 6: 3, 6: 4.

In the run-up to the restart, a positive corona test had caused a stir with a player registered for Palermo. The name had not been announced by the WTA, but the person affected did not show any symptoms.

Wimbledon champion Simona Halep (Romania) had already canceled her start in Palermo in advance. She had withdrawn at the restart not only because of "the recent surge in COVID 19 cases" in her home country, as ranked second on Twitter, but also because of her "concern about international aviation.

Donna Vekic has also successfully started the tour again. She beat Arantxa Rus 6-1 and 6-2, making her the first ever WTA peloton winner since March.
