After two tough matches at the beginning of the tournament, things are now going well for Simona Halep . Against Polona Hercog and Barbora Krejicikova , she had to go over three sets in her first games after the Corona shutdown, but she only played two games in her quarter-finals against Magdalena Frech - and two sets were enough to advance against Begu.

Halep was already 3: 5 behind in the first round, and she also had to chase a break at 5: 6. In round two, however, she was unable to extend a 3-1 lead, but then made the decisive break to 4: 3 - and then only gave up one point.

In the final against Mertens

In the final, Halep meets Elise Mertens, who is seeded three. The Belgian (WTA No. 23) wrestled Kristyna Pliskova 7: 5, 7: 6 (4) - in the tie-break of the second set she turned a 1: 4 deficit, also with the kind help of her correspondingly frustrated opponent.

In a direct comparison between Halep and Mertens it is 3: 1, on the other hand there are two clear victories for the French Open winner from 2018.
