That was quick! The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has barely reduced the doping ban against Simona Halep from four years to just a few months, which means that Halep is now eligible to play again, before the Romanian can start planning her first appearance. Because the organizers in Miami lured the 2019 Wimbledon winner with a wildcard. It will be exciting to see whether Halep can get back into competitive shape in such a short time.

The now 32-year-old Romanian has won 24 individual titles in her career so far, the last in Montreal in 2022. In 2018, Halep celebrated her first major triumph in Roland Garros. Halep lost her last match on the WTA tour to date at the US Open 2022 in round one against Daria Snigur from Ukraine. She was subsequently suspended for an anti-doping rule violation.

The interesting question will be who will sit in Halep's box. Patrick Mouratoglou is still listed as the coach on the official WTA website. However, this working relationship has long since broken down.
