Zverev regards the former third in the world rankings as "one of the greatest of the last century," reports the Spanish newspaper Marca - and would therefore like to try working with the now 38-year-old.
A 15-day trial period has been agreed, the report said. Ferrer had already packed his bags on Sunday to go to Monte Carlo to Zverev. They really want to start working together on the clay court tour from September.
Zverev, Ferrero and no goodbyes
Zverev is currently being trained by his father Alexander. But it would not be the first time that Zverev relied on the coaching skills of a former Spanish world-class player: In 2017, he already worked with former world rankings first Juan Carlos Ferrero , the separation was unpleasant - Ferrero complained about the punctuality of his protégé, Zverev spoke of the Spaniard's evil words towards his team.
Subsequently, Ivan Lendl was supposed to fix it, but took his hat off in summer 2019 after Zverev accused him of taking care of his new dog and golf game more than him.
Zverev ended Ferrer's career
With Ferrer, Zverev would now have one of the toughest workers and exemplary sportsmen in tennis at his side. "Ferru" was the epitome of the "tennis worker", he made it to the final of the French Open in 2013 and to number 3 in the world rankings. He collected 27 individual titles, most of them on sand.
A nice addition: Ferrer played his last match at the home tournament in Madrid against his new protege in May 2019. Zverev won 6: 4, 6: 1.
Most recently, Zverev went into hiding after voluntarily quarantining himself as a result of the Adriatic tour, but was spotted shortly afterwards while partying in Monte Carlo .
