Gael Monfils ended his collaboration with Günter Bresnik

A bang in Gael Monfils' team: the Frenchman is parting ways with Austrian star coach Günter Bresnik after more than two years of working together. The 36-year-old announced this on Monday via the media. It has not yet been decided who will be the new coach of the crowd's favorite.

At the beginning of 2021, the man from Paris entered into a working partnership with the 62-year-old Viennese, which also bore fruit. At the beginning of the 2022 season, Monfils won the title at the ATP 250 tournament in Adelaide and then secured a quarter-final participation in the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne.

Rumor mill mentions Tillström

After a few stubborn injuries, the comeback didn't work out this year: out of seven games (only three of them on the big ATP tour), the current ATP rank 389 only won one match. Well, shortly before his home Grand Slam tournament in Paris, the former world number six now pulled the ripcord.

Rumor has it that the name Mikael Tillström is now mentioned as the successor. Monfils had already had a player-coach relationship with the Swede from 2015 to 2017. Under Tillström, Monfils won the ATP World Tour 500 tournament in Washington, reached the final of the Masters 1000 event in Monte Carlo and advanced to the semi-finals of the 2016 US Open.
