Actually, both Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had already packed their things in Rome for an early departure: Nadal had to fend off two match points in the round of 16 against Denis Shapovalov, Djokovic was in his quarter-finals against Stefanos Tsitsipas after losing the first set and in the rounds and three behind with a break. But: the two legends simply refused to lose. And now they play against each other again in Rome in the final of the ATP Tour Masters 1000 tournament.
Nadal and Djokovic last met there in 2019, when Nadal won 6: 0, 4: 6 and 6: 1. Overall, it will be the ninth encounter in the Foro Italico between the Spaniard and the Serb. Nadal leads on the balance sheet with 5: 3 wins.
