In his victory after an hour and 51 minutes, the 19-year-old fended off a set ball in the tiebreak of the second round and thus moved into the round of the last four. There he will meet Pablo Carreno-Busta on Saturday, who saved two match balls when he beat Jannik Sinner .
"He didn't give me much, but I hit when it was important to break 5: 4 in the first set," said Auger-Aliassime after his quarter-finals. "We all know that he can beat really good players. You have to work your way out to win against him. In the second set, I was a little frustrated with myself because I gave away too many easy points. The tie-break could have been different. "
Auger-Aliassime was already leading 3-0 in the second set before letting his opponent play again. Number 21 in the world beat 22 winners, two of them with the forehand for the decisive break in the first set.
Earlier this week he took Jan-Lennard Struff, a German representative from the tournament .
Gael Monfils wins against Dan Evans
In the third game of the day, Gael Monfils prevailed with his seventh match win in a row. The Frenchman beat Dan Evans 7: 6 (5) and 6: 2 and continued his successful run after winning the tournament in Montpellier last week.
It was the eleventh win in the 13th match for the current number nine in the world. Filip Krajinovic or Andrey Rublev is waiting in the semi-finals.
