Borna Coric cannot make his comeback in Australia as planned

Borna Coric was one of the first top players to arrive in Australia at the end of December to get the 2022 season off to a perfect start. At first none of the preparatory tournaments in Sydney and Adelaide worked out and now the Croatian had to withdraw for the Australian Open as well. A real setback for the southern European, who actually wanted to make his comeback "down under" after a shoulder operation in the summer of the previous year.

"Hi guys! Unfortunately, my shoulder isn't quite ready to compete over five sets. That's why my team and I made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Australian Open," wrote the former number twelve in the ATP ranking from his Instagram page.

Close to 100 percent

"I'm extremely close to 100 per cent and arrived in Australia with a clear goal of making my comeback, but I want to make sure not to rush things in the final stages of my healing process," continued Coric. When the 25-year-old plans to return to the tour is still open.

In 2021, the two-time tournament champion had reached the second round at the Australian Open, and his best result so far in Melbourne was reaching the round of 16 in 2019.
