Wimbledon has just started and some prominent names are missing from the list of participants: in addition to that of Rafael Nadal, that of Dominic Thiem.
Thiem injured his right wrist at the ATP tournament in Mallorca , he has to take it easy for five weeks - and be careful. "That is of course a bit of a delicate injury. I have to make sure that I let it heal properly," said the Lichtenwörther during the Formula 1 race in Spielberg at the weekend .
At the same time, Thiem was confident that the injury should be over if he paid attention for five weeks and didn't do anything in the splint. "I'm far from the first to have that. If you pay attention, there shouldn't be anything in the episode."
Will it be long for Thiem to the US Open?
Thiem's injury comes in a year that is new for the world number four - in that, for the first time in a long time, not much has come together. Also mentally, after reaching the big goal last year, winning the US Open.
The main focus will now be on defending the title in New York. Is it realistic, also because of the time-out? "It won't be easy to come back. My goal is simply to be in top shape after five weeks and then to be able to start tennis again easily. I can play tennis so well that I can come back."
At the moment, the focus is on therapies, plus regular checks at the doctor in Barcelona, where the 27-year-old has to fly over and over again. But there Thiem is in good hands with Angel Ruiz Cotorro - he is also Rafael Nadal's doc.
